We left at night when I had got in from work. I managed to sleep most of the journey except a brief interlude where we stopped at a service station to refuel
Sadly the only eatery open was deep fried and unethical but appreciated at the time.
We had a nice walk at Abbotsbury up the hill to St Catherine's Chapel
Getting up the hill is not too bad but the wind was icy
Inside the chapel which is actually a chantry if you want to be really accurate
And looking the other way
View from chapel doorway back down to the edge of the village. The chapel is used very occasionally for services
The view
You look down over the Fleet down towards the swannery ('ware bird flu). This is one end of Chesil Beach which is a stony spit that is joined both ends and I still remember from geog gcse is called a tombolo.
I see no ships
We had a coffee and a pasty in a nice cafe with a chatty host. The other side that opens off the cafe was an art gallery/craft shop- really like this idea
And as ginger cats are best (Shelagh I'll provide the pages you can do the art)
And we couldn't miss Dansel art gallery where everything is made of wood. Well nearly everything...
Made of woof.
We enjoyed an afternoon looking for snow drops in Compton Valence
Lots of snowdrops
And the odd daffydowndilly
By chance we met some friends who were also there so we caught up on their news over tea and cake
And for you Pippa a giant golf ball which we always used to look out for on this road when we were little though we do know that size doesn't matter right?
Love to all xxx
