Winter Walks

We live on Linton Hill with views for many miles over the Weald of Kent. This means we get to enjoy evening with beautiful sunsets and an ever changing view from the patio depending on the weather. We can see the rain on its way or on other days the valley is full of fog. The downside to this is that every walk involves going up hill at some point!
At the bottom of the hill runs a river so this walk was planned to be along one side of the river and back along the other thus avoiding all hills.

The sun was out which helped as otherwise it could be a bit bleak

IMG_4766.JPG
There was a kissing gate in the field for walkers to use. No fence just the gate.

IMG_4770.JPG
And a fallen tree to explore

IMG_4771.JPG
And some health warnings

IMG_4777.JPG
Oh and conveniently a pub at the halfway point. I tried  some Kentish cider.

The view back up our hill

Watch out for trolls!

IMG_4786.JPG
Gorgeous winter sun and a very friendly Neddy and then we were back to the car which kindly took us up the hill home.

More recently we had another stunning winters day going to Polesden Lacy where we met a friend of Woody's whom I hadn't met before

Most of the house was shut up for the winter except the main entrance and the servants quarters and the kitchens. Even the statues in the grounds were tucked up.

The light was lovely though it was chilly

IMG_4790.JPG
A little country retreat apparently

IMG_4791.JPG
There was still frost on the ground in places

IMG_4793.JPGThe trees have beautiful sillouettes

We had a good lunch in the restaurant too
IMG_4798.JPG
And time to go!

Some more wintery pics
IMG_4805.JPG
It may be winter but the catkins are appearing

IMG_4807.JPG
There is frost around the tips of the holly

IMG_4809.JPG
Cobwebs in the mist where we live

One on the oast

And draping around the carports.

Next stop Dorset!

A white Christmas (well almost)

Having got all our boxes out of storage we were able to get out our Christmas decs for the first time for several years... Well all the ones I could find as I found some more wreaths after the celebrations were over and was putting stuff away. And woody's wedding shirt has been rediscovered as well.

IMG_4702.JPG

We went for a walk in Perry Woods over Folkestone way. There were some people having a BBQ/picnic which was very dedicated given the cold wind
IMG_4704.JPG

There was a view point where they think there had previously been a pulpit
IMG_4705.JPG

We had lots of pressies under our tree!
IMG_4707.JPG

And some local wildlife turned up for the celebrations
IMG_4708.JPG

Sally modelling our new pizza paddle. We had our first BBQ of the year on Saturday when I had work colleagues over and we made a cooked the pizzas on the BBQ as the sun made it
Just warm enough to eat outside as
well but no photos to prove it sadly. We also used the paddle and it worked well and made the debtor art of pizza transfers a much simpler process
IMG_4710.JPG

The cake what Sally made

IMG_4713.JPG
And the beautiful sunsets continue

IMG_4715.JPG

A walk along the river Medway was diverted but we did find this beautiful tree we would not otherwise have seen and we will try the walk again when the path is open
IMG_4725.JPG

In other places the path was more of a tunnel
IMG_4726.JPG

And once into Maidstone there was interesting buildings to break up the usual housing estate types
IMG_4727.JPG

But lest the sun fools you we have still had wintery walks too
IMG_4731.JPG

Mudtastic
IMG_4735.JPG

Much to woody's disgust 😂😇
IMG_4737.JPG

It was like walking in moon boots. Definitely lost calories carrying the mud across the field
IMG_4739.JPG

And the fog didn't lift for days
IMG_4741.JPG

I see no ships
IMG_4743.JPG

Cleaner ish boots
IMG_4745.JPG

And we even got snow
IMG_4760.JPG

And snow
IMG_4762.JPG
But not enough to miss work as it cleared by the time I was due back.
A few outings to come and then our holiday in Dorset so you may spot yourselves!

Sunny south to northern winter

We managed to fit in a visit to the reform church in Hermanus where we learned about Christmas card nativity vs the bible. There was no stable what what

IMG_4675.JPG

We packed! Dunno how we got it all in...
IMG_4678.JPG

Especially as some new lamps needed to come back with us ☺️ 2 bed side lamps and a full length floor lamp all in oak and handmade by a man who sold them at Hermanus market

At the airport we stood in for Pippa who had been unable to get to Ocean Basket
IMG_4680.JPG

And a last chance for a mojito
FullSizeRender.jpg

Which was mostly sugar and fizz but beggars can't be choosers
IMG_4684.JPG

Oh and a spot of sushi
IMG_4687.JPG

Yum
IMG_4688.JPG

My turn for the mojito
IMG_4869.JPG

And a bit of time wasting at the airport
IMG_4868.JPG

Lovely hats
IMG_4867.JPG

And then all too soon the plane was ready

And a mere 12 hours later it was deja vu only backwards

image2.JPG

A few more exploits to fill in before we get to where we are now in Dorset... Hair cuts, lunches out and catching up with friends before back for a night shift on the 15th. Already booked in with friends through Feb but March available for meet ups just give us some dates xxx
