For us the trip started with a night at a travelodge to cut the journey short for the early start the next day.
Sweet dreams!
Euston at 6.30 for the 7.10 train.
Peeking in through the window
My, what a long one.
Please let me in...
Even the loo is posh!
But not that posh...
Beautiful carriages
And having brought Woodington Bear on board who had sneaked a marmalade sandwich in under his hat in case of emergencies we had a pre breakfast breakfast
We were joined at Rugby by Janet and we had breakfast starting with pastries followed by a full English
The day was documented by Norman with his video camera
Look first class!
Passing through Oop North
The food company did good
An early lunch was shepherds pie yum yum
Some views...
Lots of trainspotters. 1 point for a trainspotters, 2 points if they wave, 3 points if they are female and 4 points for novelty anoraks.
The Ribblehead viaduct
We'm yur
The engine at Carlisle
Proof we got to Carlisle
And the castle
The view from the castle walls
Janet, having adjusted her clothing
Inside the cathedral
Swapping the steam engine back to a 1965 electric called Les Ross
And to finish the day a beautiful rainbow.
It was really amazing day and recommend it if you have the stamina! Xxx
